In addition to all Mountain Blessings has to offer, it is just 6 miles from the Lake Lure beach and Chimney Rock State Park and Village. Lake Lure was ranked by National Geographic as one of the top scenic lakes in the world. There are water sport rental options (kayaks, wake boards, boats, etc.) and pontoon tours of the lake.
The iconic Chimney Rock, for which the village and State Park were named, was featured on Arthur Frommer's Sept/Oct 2012 issue of Budget Travel magazine. The park received the platinum award for Favorite State Park in Blue Ridge Country’s 2013 Best of the Mountains travel poll, with voting every five years and covering seven southern states in the Appalachian Mountains. There are also several excellent golf courses nearby, including Apple Valley Golf Course, Bald Mountain Golf Course, and Etowah Valley Country Club and Golf Resort, which Golf Digest rated as one of the top 50 golf destinations in the US.
This home is centrally located just minutes from Bat Cave; 20 minutes from Hendersonville; 30 minutes from Asheville; and about 1.5 hours from Charlotte, North Carolina. Also nearby are Pisgah National Forest (less an 1 hour from Lake Lure), which has over 500,000 acres of protected forest, and DuPont State Recreational Forest (1.25 hours from Lake Lure) with over 10,000 acres. These forests feature hundreds of miles of hiking, biking, and horse trails, exquisite waterfalls, and beautiful mountaintop views. If you and/or your children are fans of The Hunger Games book and movie, a scene with Katniss and Gale was shot at the Pisgah National Forest. A few small but significant scenes were also filmed at the DuPont State Recreational Forest.
The Columbus, Mill Spring, Lake Lure/Chimney Rock area is conveniently situated for outdoor adventure including horseback riding, tubing, water sports, and hiking; museums and theater; the Biltmore Estate, Winery, and Village; shopping and restaurants; and so much more. See our Local Area Guide for additional information.
