Conveniently LocatedBlue Ridge Sunrise vacation home rental offers access to Lake Lure, ranked by National Geographic Magazine as one of the top scenic lakes in the world. The Rumbling Bald resort offers the Bald Mountain Golf Course and Apple Valley Golf Course. Nearby is the Etowah Valley Country Club and Golf Resort, which Golf Digest rated as one of the top 50 golf destinations in the US.
This lovely home is centrally located, just 13 minutes from Chimney Rock State Park and village. The iconic Chimney Rock (for which the village and park were named) was featured on Arthur Frommer's Sept/Oct 2012 issue of Budget Travel magazine. The park received the platinum award for Favorite State Park in Blue Ridge Country’s 2013 Best of the Mountains travel poll, with voting every five years and covering seven southern states in the Appalachian Mountains.
If you enjoy scenic drives, head out of Lake Lure on Alt-US 74 (Memorial Highway). This stretch of road has 14 hairpin turns and runs through the Hickory Nut Gorge communities of Chimney Rock Village, Bat Cave, and Gerton. Continue toward Asheville to pick up what many consider the most beautiful length of road in this country, the Blue Ridge Parkway. If you have not traveled any this of road, it is something to add to your bucket list.
It is only 15 minutes from Bat Cave; 35 minutes from Hendersonville; 50 minutes from Asheville; and about 2 hours from Charlotte, North Carolina. Also nearby are Pisgah National Forest (less an 1 hour from Lake Lure), which has over 500,000 acres of protected forest, and DuPont State Recreational Forest (1.25 hours from Lake Lure) with over 10,000 acres. These forests feature hundreds of miles of hiking, biking, and horse trails, exquisite waterfalls, and beautiful mountaintop views. If you and/or your children are fans of The Hunger Games book and movie, a scene with Katniss and Gale was shot at the Pisgah National Forest. A few small but significant scenes were also filmed at the DuPont State Recreational Forest.
The Lake Lure/Chimney Rock area is conveniently situated for outdoor adventure including horseback riding, tubing, water sports, and hiking; museums and theater; the Biltmore Estate and Village; shopping and restaurants; and so much more.
