Nature's Paradise

The Bear’s Den is a beautiful log home located in a private community on the east shore of Lake Lure. The peaceful, wooded location is within walking distance of a quiet cove on Lake Lure for fishing or swimming.  This destination is sure to spark treasured family memories for years to come (sorry, no four-legged family members). It is easily accessible from the parking area via a ramp, which is wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair. This home is 6.5 miles to the Beach at Lake Lure, 7.9 miles to Chimney Rock State Park, and 18.2 miles to the Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC).

If you enjoy privacy, The Bear’s Den offers seclusion. Lake Lure Beach and Marina are not too far away if you plan on venturing out to enjoy a weekend by the lake. If you would rather spend the day hiking along the scenic trails, Chimney Rock State Park is less than 10 minutes from the cabin.

Worthy of Log Home Magazine

The wonderful two-story great room has beautiful wood floors, a floor to ceiling stone fireplace with gas logs and is furnished with locally crafted log furniture. The living room features DirecTV and a DVD player with surround sound.

The king bed suite has a rocking chair, many charming decorative accents, and sliding door that leads to the covered deck. Begin your morning with coffee on the porch swing. The ceramic-tile bathroom adjoining the suite has a corner jetted tub for a relaxing soak after a day spent hiking, swimming or fishing.

Guests will appreciate the two additional bedrooms, each with sliding doors that lead to the deck. One bedroom has a queen bed and the other has 2 twin beds. There is a full bath (tub/shower combination) nearby.

Stairs from the living area lead to a cozy loft. Furnished with a queen futon, DirecTV and a game table, it is a perfect spot for an additional sleeping area, quiet reading or board games (bring cards or your favorites games to enjoy).

Covered porches surround the front of the cabin and ample glass doors and windows offer soothing views of the woods beyond.  There is also a back deck and a screened porch off the kitchen where guests can enjoy breakfast with the sounds of nature. Beautiful winter views of Lake Lure add to the enjoyment of a winter stay at the Bear's Den.

Beautiful Year Round

This mountain home is perfect for every season! Enjoy the beautiful snowy weather in the winter where a cozy cabin feels just right. Stay warm by the fireplace or relax in the jetted tub in the master bath. Visit in the summer when the weather is perfect all the time and you can enjoy the soothing summer breezes and beautiful sunsets from the scenic porch overlook.

Our family enjoyed our stay so much. The house is beautiful and was perfect for our Labor Day Weekend visit. The kids loved having the loft as their special place and the huge front porch was so much fun for them. I enjoyed morning coffee while swinging. Everything was clean. Hope to come back soon!

Everything was so easy ...... I had minimal contact with the host..... we never encountered an issue that required us to contact the host or Carolina properties..... and to us that is a compliment to all of you. The check in/check out process with the key pad was nice..... very simple process....... cabin was clean, new and had a great lay out.
Everything was exactly what were looking for...... from the cabin to the location......the peaceful location and all of the covered porches were really nice to just sit and relax when we werent on the go, just the overall experience was perfect. Cant wait to visit again!

I called and spoke with someone about the road conditions since I knew it had snowed recently and she was polite, friendly and accurate .
This was our second stay, having originally found The Bears Den via Air BnB. The location is beautiful and the stay is serene and relaxing. Its a wonderful spot to unwind and recharge. Looking forward to future visits! The property was beautifully maintained (with the exception of the gravel leading up to the ramp) and the check in and out process was so easy!

Valerie was very friendly and explained any questions I had with ease.
The property was clean and very beautiful. Nice and quiet outside with a beautiful view of Lake Lure. I would definitely revisit this property myself and recommend this to a friend. Between the friendly staff and beauty of the location and property, I would definitely tell all my friends about it! Only 10 minutes from an Ingles grocery store. Maybe 15 minutes from the Flowering Bridge, Chimney Rock state park, village, and Lake Lure Boat Tours. The property is beautiful and clean. The woodwork in the house is beautiful and the home is decorated with cute bear pictures. The beds were comfortable, grill was great for BBQ, the screened in porch was nice in the morning in the middle of September. Nice, cool and relaxing.

From our first to our last phone call relating to the property, everyone was very helpful. We only met one person when we picked up our packet on Thanksgiving Day - she was friendly and helpful as well.
Most everything was clean when we arrived. We only had issues on a few of the pans there for our use. Some of them had caked on food which we had to clean off. The BBQ utensils out on the back patio were dirty as well. The vertical blinds in some of the rooms had apparently been broken before and were taped on. A few fell when we were there so we taped them back up. One of the pillow cases in the master bedroom was ripped in two places. We left a note about that in the home. Everything else was nice and we enjoyed just hanging out on the outside patios enjoying the weather.

Conveniently Located

The Bear's Den is minutes from the Lake Lure beach and Chimney Rock State Park and village. Lake Lure was ranked by National Geographic Magazine as one of the top scenic lakes in the world. There are water sport rental options (kayaks, wake boards, boats, etc.) and pontoon tours of the lake.

The iconic Chimney Rock, for which the village and State Park are named, was featured on Arthur Frommer's Sept/Oct 2012 issue of Budget Travel magazine. The park received the platinum award for Favorite State Park in Blue Ridge Country’s 2013 Best of the Mountains travel poll, with voting every five years and covering seven southern states in the Appalachian Mountains. There are also several excellent golf courses nearby, including Apple Valley Golf Course, Bald Mountain Golf Course, and Etowah Valley Country Club and Golf Resort, which Golf Digest rated as one of the top 50 golf destinations in the US.

If you enjoy scenic drives, head out of Lake Lure on Alt 74 (curvy and scenic Memorial Highway) through Chimney Rock Village, Bat Cave, Gerton, Fairview, toward Asheville to pick up what many consider the most beautiful length of road in this country, the Blue Ridge Parkway. If you have not traveled this stretch of road, it is something to add to your bucket list. Actor Norman Reedus of The Boondock Saints and The Walking Dead fame, featured the parkway on a 2016 episode of his AMC TV series Ride with Norman (Appalachia: Blue Ridge Parkway, Season 1 Episode 3). Just 1.25 hours from the home and five miles off the parkway is Maggie Valley, home to the Wheels Through Time transportation museum that features rare American motorcycles, memorabilia, and a distinct array of unique one-off American automobiles.

This home is centrally located just 15 minutes from Bat Cave; 35 minutes from Hendersonville; 50 minutes from Asheville; and about 2 hours from Charlotte, North Carolina. Also nearby are Pisgah National Forest (less an 1 hour from Lake Lure), which has over 500,000 acres of protected forest, and DuPont State Recreational Forest (1.25 hours from Lake Lure) with over 10,000 acres. These forests feature hundreds of miles of hiking, biking, and horse trails, exquisite waterfalls, and beautiful mountaintop views. If you and/or your children are fans of The Hunger Games book and movie, a scene with Katniss and Gale was shot at the Pisgah National Forest. A few small but significant scenes were also filmed at the DuPont State Recreational Forest.

The Lake Lure/Chimney Rock is conveniently situated for outdoor adventure including horseback riding, tubing, water sports, and hiking; museums and theater; the Biltmore Estate and Village; shopping and restaurants; and so much more.
