Imagine spending a week or a weekend secluded in the country and yet be minutes from Lake Lure and Chimney Rock, North Carolina. The cottage is 12.8 miles to the Beach at Lake Lure, 14.2 miles to Chimney Rock State Park, and 21.3 miles to the Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC). Built to mimic an old fishing cottage, Grandpa's Cabin has plenty of rustic appeal including a covered front porch. The bold Cedar Creek runs through the front yard.
Picture yourself sitting on the front porch with your family (four-legged family members welcome) and listening to the rushing water just steps away. There are rocking chairs and a porch swing for your use. This is the perfect spot for your morning coffee or tea. You and your children may want to jump into the creek to play or just to cool off.
Basic but Functional
This home has served as a family country getaway for years. It is basic but functional, offering Internet for needed work hours or searching for your next adventure; a true escape from the modern, hectic world. Put your cell phone away, there is no service at the cabin (there is a landline telephone in the home), and enjoy the beauty of the surroundings.
In this single-level cottage are 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. The living, kitchen, and dining areas are in a single large room that includes a great stone fireplace with gas logs. It is perfect for cool evenings, when a blazing fire in a mountain cabin is ideal.
For All Seasons
With the area's temperate climate and beauty, this home can be enjoyed throughout the year. Springtime brings the blooming of the dogwood and red bud trees as well as the azaleas, rhododendron, and mountain laurel. Summer brings lush greenery and the autumn colors are extraordinary. Winters are mild and, with less tree obstruction, views are incredible. Add the year-round sounds of Cedar Creek and you have peaceful perfection!
The Lake Lure/Chimney rock area and surrounding communities offer a number of entertainment and activity options. See the Amenities and Notes for just a sampling of what is available. Just pack your clothes, pick up some groceries, and then sit back, relax, and enjoy all this area and Grandpa’s Cabin have to offer. We hope to see you soon and welcome you to be our guest!

All contact was via email or text. No problems. It's not for everyone. But for those so inclined, it is a nice, simple, ample place.
Upon arrival I noticed that the front door railing was broken/rotted. All it needs is a 6' long, 1" diameter dowl and two screws. It's not for everyone. But for those so inclined, it is a nice, simple, ample place.

Everything was fantastic. The only complaint would be to leave instructions for the TV and one extra garbage bag.
Very relaxing and calming clean place. Even my old pup loved roaming the grounds.
Place of Grandpas Cabin so relaxing and clean. Plus we had one question about the fire place, gave a call and was answered quickly with kindness

Never saw anyone in person but by email. Making reservations was easy, checkin was simple and everything you needed to know
Everything was clean and exactly as described. The only thing I would recommend would be to fix the front porch railing and perhaps add a railing to the back porch, it was difficult getting my 80 year old mother in. We also could have used better directions for working the tv. Beautiful location, very relaxing.

We had no problems at all.
The cabin was absolutely perfect for our small family. There are neighbors, but it is secluded enough that you would never know it. Well, except for the sweet and friendly German Shepherd that came to keep us company on the porch one afternoon. It is convenient to Lake Lure and Chimney Rock fun as well as Asheville, then you can return to your own slice of private paradise. We will definitely be back and recommend to others!

Amazing... Especially since we didn't have good cell coverage. Everything was explained well to us before the trip so when we arrived and didn't have any cell service, we had no problems figuring out how to get into the cabin.

I staying at a cabin that had no staff. It was great. The person I made reservation was very sweet and accommodating. Even when I got there I called to check a few things and she directed me and told me to call her anytime. Cabin was clean location was nestled in a sucluded area with a wonderful creek that my son and husband used for fishing and tubing. So peaceful. The patio overlooked the creek and you can sit there for hours at a time. Im ready to go back.
I know there are so many cabins at Carolina cabins but grandpas cabin was amazing. It fits 4 with kitchen grill. Everything you need. Creek fire pit. I didnt want to even venture out. I loved this place and we will return soon. So glad I found it. Perfect location and perfect tranquility. Stores arent too far and horseback riding, chimney rock and lake were close.

They were very courteous especially when we werent able to make it our first night due to medical reasons. The staff wished us well and let us know when we were able to make it there to come. Everything was done online and when I had a question I could call and the lady who answered the phone was very friendly and professional. We were able to bypass long lines waiting to check in by going straight to our cabin!

Grandpa's Cabin is about 10 minutes from the Lake Lure beach and Chimney Rock State Park and village. Lake Lure was ranked by National Geographic Magazine as one of the top scenic lakes in the world. There are water sport rental options (kayaks, wake boards, boats, etc.) and pontoon tours of the lake.
The iconic Chimney Rock, for which the area and State Park are named, was featured on Arthur Frommer's Sept/Oct 2012 issue of Budget Travel magazine. The park received the platinum award for Favorite State Park in Blue Ridge Country’s 2013 Best of the Mountains travel poll, with voting every five years and covering seven southern states in the Appalachian Mountains. There are also several excellent golf courses nearby, including Apple Valley Golf Course, Bald Mountain Golf Course, and Etowah Valley Country Club and Golf Resort, which Golf Digest rated as one of the top 50 golf destinations in the US.
This home is centrally located just 15 minutes from Bat Cave; 35 minutes from Hendersonville; 50 minutes from Asheville; and about 2 hours from Charlotte, North Carolina. Also nearby are Pisgah National Forest (less an 1 hour from Lake Lure), which has over 500,000 acres of protected forest, and DuPont State Recreational Forest (1.25 hours from Lake Lure) with over 10,000 acres. These forests feature hundreds of miles of hiking, biking, and horse trails, exquisite waterfalls, and beautiful mountaintop views. If you and/or your children are fans of The Hunger Games book and movie, a scene with Katniss and Gale was shot at the Pisgah National Forest. A few small but significant scenes were also filmed at the DuPont State Recreational Forest.
If you enjoy scenic drives, head out of Lake Lure through Chimney Rock Village, Bat Cave, Gerton, Fairview, toward Asheville to pick up what many consider the most beautiful length of road in this country, the Blue Ridge Parkway. If you have not traveled this stretch of road, it is something to add to your bucket list. Actor Norman Reedus of The Boondock Saints and The Walking Dead fame, featured the parkway on a 2016 episode of his AMC TV series Ride with Norman (Appalachia: Blue Ridge Parkway, Season 1 Episode 3). Just 1.25 hours from the home and five miles off the parkway is Maggie Valley, home to the Wheels Through Time transportation museum that features rare American motorcycles, memorabilia, and a distinct array of unique one-off American automobiles.
