Description

Beautiful Lot and Perfect for Motorcycles

With paved roads, ample parking space and a garage, Twelve Mile Escape is perfect for those traveling by motorcycle. Located in the private gated community of Twelve Mile Post, this tastefully decorated home is situated on a mostly wooded 2-acre lot and is just minutes from Lake Lure, Chimney Rock and Rutherfordton. This home is 8.1 miles to the Beach at Lake Lure, 9.4 miles to Chimney Rock State Park, and 12.6 miles to the Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC).

It is also just a few miles east of the curvy and scenic Alt-US 74 Memorial Highway, with its 14 hairpin turns. Take Alt-US 74 through Chimney Rock Village, Bat Cave, Gerton, Fairview, toward Asheville to pick up what many consider the most beautiful length of road in this country, the Blue Ridge Parkway. The road is considered one of the most beautiful in the country.  If you have not traveled even a small stretch of road, it is something to add to your bucket list. Actor Norman Reedus of The Boondock Saints and The Walking Dead fame, featured the parkway on a 2016 episode of his AMC TV series Ride with Norman (Appalachia: Blue Ridge Parkway, Season 1 Episode 3).

Just 1.25 hours from the home and five miles off the parkway is Maggie Valley, home to Wheels Through Time. This transportation museum is a must-see for motorcycle/auto enthusiasts or history buffs, featuring rare American motorcycles, memorabilia, and a distinct array of unique one-off American automobiles.

Deal's Gap and the Tail of the Dragon are a 3-hour ride from the home. On this drive, you will be traveling through small towns with unique restaurants, shopping, and more.

Seclusion and Comfort

Whether you want to get away for a relaxing vacation or a long weekend, this beautiful cabin offers all the comforts of home. There is a screened front porch with plenty of seating. The living area has numerous windows (with wood blinds to control the light) and a beautiful gas-log stone fireplace (for use in cold weather). Beyond the living area is the dining room with seating for 6. French doors lead to the back deck and the gas grill. The galley kitchen is fully equipped and features stainless steel appliances including a side-by-side refrigerator with an in-door water/ice dispenser, dishwasher, and gas stove.

There are 3 bedrooms in the home with sleeping (in beds) for 6. The king bed suite has a beautifully appointed full bath with a dark-wood double vanity, brushed steel fixtures, and tiled walk-in shower. A second bedroom has a queen bed and the third has 2 twin beds. There is a full bath with vanity and walk-in shower as well.

Perfect Every Season

No matter the season, you and your family (sorry, no four-legged family members) will see that this home provides a perfect mountain escape. Stay in the spring when the foliage is beginning to bloom and daytime temperatures average in the 60s. Enjoy your morning coffee on the screen porch or sit by the fire pit in the cool evenings. Visit in the summer when the weather is perfect—warm but not humid. Visit later in the year when a cozy mountain home feels just right; the autumn colors in this area are breathtaking and the winter weather opens an entirely new view with the leaves absent from the trees. Stay warm by the fireplace or just curl up on the porch with a warm blanket.

The staff was great! I was looking for a 2 night last minute stay so I wasn't able to search on the website. The staff helped me and we were able to rent 12 Mile Escape. We had a very productive weekend!

FYI the arm rest on the left side of the porch swing is broken. The screw has worked its way out. The toilet in the master bathroom runs long after it's been flushed. I don't know if these issues have been reported but I thought I would make you aware of them.

Our dealings have been with Valarie who is wonderful. She found us the perfect spot for our trip. This is our second time working with her and she is always very responsive and answers all of our questions quickly. Super easy to work with and would recommend her and Carolina Properties for any of their rental and vacation needs.

This is our second rental with Carolina Properties. They are wonderful to work with. The purpose of our trip was to meet with builders as we are moving here next year. Carolina Properties was able to find us a home right in the same area that we are building. They are incredibly thorough and wonderful to work with. The home we stayed in this time was perfect! Clean, wonderful accommodations and the trees and incredibly quiet. This area is perfect for a family, a weekend getaway, a romantic escape ... I can't think of anyone who wouldn't love the home. It's close to the grocery store and downtown Lake Lure. We are very hopeful to stay in this home again as we will be making another trip before we start building our own wonderful cabin in the woods. If you are looking for a wonderful real estate company to help you find your dream vacation ... look no further. Carolina Properties will find exactly what you need. Thank you so much for all of your help!

Notes

Western North Carolina offers a number of entertainment and activity options as well as some of the most beautiful views you will ever see. Twelve Mile Escape is about 12 minutes from the Lake Lure beach and Chimney Rock State Park and village. Lake Lure was ranked by National Geographic Magazine as one of the top scenic lakes in the world. There are water sport rental options (kayaks, wake boards, boats, etc.) and pontoon tours of the lake.

The iconic Chimney Rock, for which the village and State Park are named, was featured on Arthur Frommer's Sept/Oct 2012 issue of Budget Travel magazine. The park received the platinum award for Favorite State Park in Blue Ridge Country’s 2013 Best of the Mountains travel poll, with voting every five years and covering seven southern states in the Appalachian Mountains. There are also several excellent golf courses nearby, including Apple Valley Golf Course, Bald Mountain Golf Course, and Etowah Valley Country Club and Golf Resort, which Golf Digest rated as one of the top 50 golf destinations in the US.

This cozy home is centrally located just 15 minutes from Bat Cave; 35 minutes from Hendersonville; 50 minutes from Asheville; and about 2 hours from Charlotte, North Carolina. Also nearby are Pisgah National Forest (less an 1 hour from Lake Lure), which has over 500,000 acres of protected forest, and DuPont State Recreational Forest (1.25 hours from Lake Lure) with over 10,000 acres. These forests feature hundreds of miles of hiking, biking, and horse trails, exquisite waterfalls, and beautiful mountaintop views. If you and/or your children are fans of The Hunger Games book and movie, a scene with Katniss and Gale was shot at the Pisgah National Forest. A few small but significant scenes were also filmed at the DuPont State Recreational Forest.

Just 29 miles west is Asheville and the Biltmore Estate. You can tour the mansion and winery, and at Christmastime enjoy the beautifully decorated trees and lights. Biltmore Village is home to many unique shops and, according the Food Network Channel, one of the most beautiful McDonald’s restaurants in the world.

This area of North Carolina caught the attention of Hollywood years ago. A number of movies have been filmed in Asheville and at the Biltmore Estate including the Peter Sellers film Being There. Chimney Rock State Park is where a The Last of the Mohicans scene was filmed. This a perfect place to spend the day hiking and admiring the magnificent views. Dirty DancingMy Fellow AmericansFirestarter, and A Breed Apart scenes were filmed in Lake Lure. About 60 miles away is Grandfather Mountain in Linville where Forrest Gump, in the movie of the same name, was filmed running and the hairpin curve is now named after the famous character. The beauty of western North Carolina keeps bringing filmmakers back to our area.

Additionally, the Lake Lure area offers seasonal scenic boat tours, tennis, golf, horseback riding, biking, fishing, zip lining, phenomenal hiking and restaurants. Quaint Bat Cave offers unique shops. Just 15 miles away is Rutherfordton, where you can enjoy wonderful meals, great shopping, and a children’s museum. Thirty minutes away historic Hendersonville boasts antique shopping and live theater.

The Lake Lure/Chimney Rock area is conveniently situated for outdoor adventure including horseback riding, tubing, water sports, and hiking; museums and theater; the Biltmore Estate and Village; shopping and restaurants; and so much more. For additional information and activities, just see our Local Area Guide.
