Description

Country Seclusion Yet Close To Town

Imagine spending a week or a weekend secluded in the country and yet be minutes from Lake Lure and Chimney Rock, North Carolina. The cottage is 12.8 miles to the Beach at Lake Lure, 14.2 miles to Chimney Rock State Park, and 21.3 miles to the Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC). Built to mimic an old fishing cottage, Grandpa's Cabin has plenty of rustic appeal including a covered front porch. The bold Cedar Creek runs through the front yard.

Picture yourself sitting on the front porch with your family (four-legged family members welcome) and listening to the rushing water just steps away. There are rocking chairs and a porch swing for your use. This is the perfect spot for your morning coffee or tea. You and your children may want to jump into the creek to play or just to cool off. With the creek and substantial acreage (14.31) with private hiking trails, your four-legged kids will be in doggie heaven!

Basic but Functional

This home has served as a family country getaway for years. It is basic but functional, offering a true escape from the modern, hectic world. Put your cell phone away, there is no service at the cabin (there is a landline telephone in the home), and enjoy the beauty of the surroundings.

In this single-level cottage are 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. The living, kitchen, and dining areas are in a single large room that includes a great stone fireplace with gas logs. It is perfect for cool evenings, when a blazing fire in a mountain cabin is ideal.

For All Seasons

With the area's temperate climate and beauty, this home can be enjoyed throughout the year. Springtime brings the blooming of the dogwood and red bud trees as well as the azaleas, rhododendron, and mountain laurel. Summer brings lush greenery and the autumn colors are extraordinary. Winters are mild and, with less tree obstruction, views are incredible. Add the year-round sounds of Cedar Creek and you have peaceful perfection!

The Lake Lure/Chimney rock area and surrounding communities offer a number of entertainment and activity options. See the Amenities and Notes for just a sampling of what is available. Just pack your clothes, pick up some groceries, and then sit back, relax, and enjoy all this area and Grandpa’s Cabin have to offer. We hope to see you soon and welcome you to be our guest!

We loved the peace and simplicity of this place. If you are looking for a great spot to enjoy your family and not your phones this is it! We used some tubes in the river, caught a lot of fish, the dog was able to play and stay with us, and it was clean.

It's very comforting knowing that when you get to the property - the cabins will be prepared well. Everything was stocked and clean. Plenty of towels and toiletries for the guests, and the toiletries were presented very professionally and beautifully. It really felt like you were home.

Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable.Easy pick up and drop off of keys. The only problem I experienced is the garbage removal due to Sunday being closed and Monday a holiday. With a long travel home it was difficult finding a place to get rid of our smelly garbage.
Property
We really enjoyed Grandpa's cabin. Its is very secluded so you need not have to worry about internet. It had everything that we needed for cooking and linens. Our dog had the best time!! We enjoyed the river and floated down it with floats. It is not very far from Lake Lure and Chimney Rock so a day trip is no problem.

Notes

Conveniently Located

Grandpa's Cabin is about 10 minutes from the Lake Lure beach and Chimney Rock State Park and village. Lake Lure was ranked by National Geographic Magazine as one of the top scenic lakes in the world. There are water sport rental options (kayaks, wake boards, boats, etc.) and pontoon tours of the lake.

The iconic Chimney Rock, for which the area and State Park are named, was featured on Arthur Frommer's Sept/Oct 2012 issue of Budget Travel magazine. The park received the platinum award for Favorite State Park in Blue Ridge Country’s 2013 Best of the Mountains travel poll, with voting every five years and covering seven southern states in the Appalachian Mountains. There are also several excellent golf courses nearby, including Apple Valley Golf Course, Bald Mountain Golf Course, and Etowah Valley Country Club and Golf Resort, which Golf Digest rated as one of the top 50 golf destinations in the US.

This home is centrally located just 15 minutes from Bat Cave; 35 minutes from Hendersonville; 50 minutes from Asheville; and about 2 hours from Charlotte, North Carolina. Also nearby are Pisgah National Forest (less an 1 hour from Lake Lure), which has over 500,000 acres of protected forest, and DuPont State Recreational Forest (1.25 hours from Lake Lure) with over 10,000 acres. These forests feature hundreds of miles of hiking, biking, and horse trails, exquisite waterfalls, and beautiful mountaintop views. If you and/or your children are fans of The Hunger Games book and movie, a scene with Katniss and Gale was shot at the Pisgah National Forest. A few small but significant scenes were also filmed at the DuPont State Recreational Forest.

If you enjoy scenic drives, head out of Lake Lure through Chimney Rock Village, Bat Cave, Gerton, Fairview, toward Asheville to pick up what many consider the most beautiful length of road in this country, the Blue Ridge Parkway. If you have not traveled this stretch of road, it is something to add to your bucket list. Actor Norman Reedus of The Boondock Saints and The Walking Dead fame, featured the parkway on a 2016 episode of his AMC TV series Ride with Norman (Appalachia: Blue Ridge Parkway, Season 1 Episode 3). Just 1.25 hours from the home and five miles off the parkway is Maggie Valley, home to the Wheels Through Time transportation museum that features rare American motorcycles, memorabilia, and a distinct array of unique one-off American automobiles.

The Lake Lure/Chimney Rock area is conveniently situated for an outdoor adventure including horseback riding, tubing, water sports, and hiking; museums and theater; the Biltmore Estate and Village; shopping and restaurants; and so much more.
